An Abscessed or Infected Tooth
If your tooth has become injured or fractured, a dental infection may occur. Root canal therapy can often help to preserve an infected tooth, however if the infection progresses beyond the scope of a root canal, your tooth will need to be extracted.
Otherwise known as third molars, wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to arrive behind your first two molars, around the ages of 18-25. Wisdom teeth are positioned very far back in the mouth and are often hard to reach for proper brushing and flossing. There may also not be enough room in your mouth to accommodate your wisdom teeth, and they may start to crowd your other teeth. Sometimes wisdom teeth don't erupt properly, and they may remain impacted, or stuck beneath your gum line.
For all of these reasons, our dentists may recommend your wisdom teeth be extracted. These extractions are very straight forward, and most patients are pleasantly surprised at how smoothly they go.
Preparation for Orthodontics
If your teeth are crowded, your orthodontist may decide to remove one or two in order to accommodate your treatment plan. We will extract those teeth prior to the beginning of orthodontic treatment.
Preparation For Full Dentures
For patients missing most of their teeth, dentures are often a good solution. Dentures are designed to restore an entire arch of teeth, so if you have any teeth remaining, they'll need to be removed prior to receiving your dentures.
